My Story
In loving memory of my sister Marni — always in my heart. 💗
I’m sharing this with radical honesty and vulnerability — because my struggles are the reason I launched Matt Presser Coaching.
Despite once being the #1 singles and doubles tennis player for the State University of New York at Albany, I spent much of my adult life battling multiple addictions (not just food — I smoked for decades and genuinely believed cigarettes were my comfort and my crutch that I could not “live” without until I finally broke free), depression, low self-esteem, and excess weight.
After decades of eating mostly bacon double cheeseburgers and barely touching fruits or vegetables, my doctor warned I would soon need high blood pressure and cholesterol medication if I didn’t change my eating habits. In 2013, I had my gallbladder surgically removed after years of eating this way — and even then, I continued the same habits for another five years.
Everything changed in 2018, when my sister Marni was losing her battle with breast cancer. I began researching how food and lifestyle affect our health — and it completely changed my perspective. Unfortunately, Marni passed away later that year at just 49, leaving behind her husband and two beautiful children. Her memory stays with me and motivates me to help others transform their health. I miss my sister so much.
A handful of years later, my dad passed away following a long, brutal fight with Parkinson’s. He was on so many medications that even the professionals struggled to keep track. Watching his quality of life slowly disappear further reminded me of the deeper truth about health, lifestyle, and the choices we make.
Since Marni’s passing, I’ve lost over 65 pounds, kept it off for years, and discovered a healthier, happier way to live. Today, my blood pressure is consistently below 120/80 — something I never imagined I could achieve without lifelong medications that only treat symptoms rather than the root cause. And now, I’m passionate about helping others do the same.
There’s no magic pill — but there are wonderful health-promoting foods, a mindset shift, and a way to learn better habits that can transform the destructive patterns holding us back into ones that set us free.
I got my degree in Psychology because I’ve always found human behavior fascinating. It’s only taken me about 32 years to finally use it professionally — but better late than never!
In Good Health,
Matt
